In Poland, according to the standards, paper products are: paper (grammature to 250 g/m2) and cardboard (from 250 g/m2). According to international regulations, the border is 225 g/m2.

There is also a customary division:

  1. tissue-papers (to 28 g/m2),
  2. papers (from 29 to 160 g/m2),
  3. thin cardboards (from 161 to 315 g/m2),
  4. cardboards (from 315 g/m2),
  5. bibulous papers (from 65 to 250 g/m2).

The clasification of papers using for printing:

  • luxury printing papers
  • papers for printing multicolor magazines
  • news-papers
  • special papers
  • multicoat cardboards for printing, also high processed

Characteristic of paper depends on its properties, for example:

- thickness
- volumen

- smoothness
- cihesion of the basis
- doublesizing
- anizotrophy

some of durability properties:

- extensibility
- tearing durability
- partly tearing durability
- bending durability
- breaking durability
- hardness
- softness
- stratifying resistance

some of optical properties:

- whiteness
- tint
- polish

some of properties hydrophoboic and hydophilic:

- absolute moisture of the paper
- relative moisture of the paper
- proneness to waving
- water resistance

some of special properties :

- time resistance
- proneness to powdering
- proneness to electrifying
- lye resistance
- printability
